This healthy Orange Julius smoothie is frothy, creamy, and bursting with orange flavor. A handful of spinach gives it a bright green color and a nutritional boost—perfect for a busy morning or a quick, filling breakfast.

Green Orange Julius Smoothie
I come from a large family—five siblings and lots of kids—so quick, healthy breakfasts are essential. This Green Orange Julius smoothie became a favorite during a winter family gathering when my brother mixed up several green smoothies. Adults loved the citrus-and-spinach combo, and after a week of holiday treats, a fresh, bright smoothie felt especially welcome.
Some kids prefer smoothies that taste like dessert, and others want something more substantial. I usually serve smoothies with scrambled eggs so we have something to chew, but this recipe is surprisingly filling thanks to banana, milk, and spinach. It’s ideal for breakfast, a light lunch, or a nutritious snack.
One tip from my experiments: avoid adding large amounts of celery unless you want a celery-forward flavor. I tried a few batches with celery and they masked the orange. This version focuses on orange, banana, and spinach for a balanced, refreshing flavor.
Why this smoothie works
- Fresh orange and frozen orange juice concentrate give bright citrus flavor and a hint of sweetness without refined sugar.
- Banana adds creaminess and natural sweetness; a ripe or frozen banana works best.
- Spinach blends smoothly and adds vitamins and color without a strong grassy taste.
- Milk provides protein and a creamy texture; use any milk you prefer, including dairy or plant-based.
Green Orange Julius Smoothie
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup milk (any kind; whole milk shown)
- 1 to 2 tablespoons frozen orange juice concentrate
- 1 medium orange, peel removed
- 1/2 banana (a frozen banana works great)
- 1 cup fresh spinach
- 6–8 ice cubes, or to taste
Instructions
- Place the milk, orange juice concentrate, peeled orange, banana, spinach, and ice cubes into a blender.
- Blend until completely smooth and frothy. Start with 1 tablespoon of orange concentrate and add more to taste.
- Pour into a glass and enjoy immediately. This recipe yields about 14–16 ounces (one serving).
Notes
*The riper the banana, the sweeter the smoothie will be. If you prefer a colder, thicker drink, use a frozen banana and reduce the ice.
